Lynnhaven Middle School to house An Achievable Dream Academy middle school program

Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools and An Achievable Dream Academy will extend their partnership to begin a middle school program within Lynnhaven Middle School.

School administration selected Lynnhaven as the site for the program's middle school years after completing a facilities study of the city. Lynnhaven Middle has the building capacity to house An Achievable Dream Academy in addition to the school's current enrollment. Additionally, Lynnhaven Middle School is close in proximity to the academy's elementary program at Seatack Elementary School.

VBCPS launched An Achievable Dream Academy for students at Seatack in July of 2014. The K-12 program began with students in kindergarten through second grade, and it has added a grade level each year. In July of 2018, the program will boast its first sixth grade class. As such, all students currently participating in the An Achievable Dream Academy at Seatack will automatically be enrolled at Lynnhaven Middle School to continue the program. If students elect not to continue the program, they will be enrolled at their zoned middle school.

All current fifth grade students who are zoned to attend Lynnhaven Middle and who are not currently enrolled in the Achievable Dream Academy program will have opportunity to apply to the program as rising sixth-graders for the 2018-19 school year, if they are interested.

Students taking part in the academy are still taught the Virginia Beach curriculum and have the same performance standards as all other public schools. An Achievable Dream provides additional resources beyond the Virginia Beach content and objectives including a Social, Academic and Moral Education (SAME) curriculum. This custom-built curriculum includes classes on personal finance, ethics, conflict resolution and etiquette.
