Virginia Beach schools awarded Governor's Security and Equipment Grant

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) was awarded $60,792 by Governor Terry McAuliffe in School Security and Equipment grants. A total of $6 million was awarded to 104 school divisions and regional educational programs across Virginia.

With the grants, VBCPS will augment existing security equipment at Bayside, Cox and Green Run high schools, including the purchase of additional closed-circuit cameras, two-way radios and electronic door locks.

The competitive grant program was enacted in 2013 by the Virginia General Assembly. As part of the grant program, school divisions are required to provide a 25 percent match of funds. Since 2013, VBCPS has annually applied for these grants and received funding, which has resulted in $418,492 in additional security upgrades across 25 of the school division’s elementary, middle and high schools.
