Green Run High School earns second-year $50,000 grant from VDOE

For the second year in a row, Green Run High School (GRHS) has been awarded a $50,000 High School Innovation Planning Grant from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). GRHS staff members will use this money to further provide original, blended learning opportunities for students, including local internships, industry credentialing courses and college certifications programs.

"Last year, we were able to lay the groundwork for some exciting and innovative experiences for our students," said Todd Tarkenton, GRHS principal. "We are grateful to the VDOE for acknowledging the work we have done so far and for providing yet another grant to allow us to expand these efforts and provide more opportunities for our students."

Through last year's planning grant, Green Run staff members designed the school's Innovation Lab, where students could learn more about and take part in the learning opportunities that align with their needs and interests. This second-year grant will continue to fund necessary resources to enhance the Innovation Lab experience as well as increase professional learning opportunities for teachers.

According to the VDOE, the Innovation Planning Grants were authorized by the 2016 General Assembly in order to encourage school divisions to develop innovative programs that emphasize personalized learning, alignment with local workforce needs and college and career readiness.
