Community Resource Fair supports
individuals with disabilities

The school division's Office of Programs for Exceptional Children (OPEC) and the Virginia Beach Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) will host the 2016 Community Resource Fair Monday, Nov. 14, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Landstown High School. The event is free and open to the public and will feature information from more than 100 organizations, agencies and providers about their services and products for children and/or adults with disabilities.

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit exhibits and speak with representatives involved with assistive technology, care coordination, case management, recreational programs, vocational assistance, transition services, residential programs, legal services, respite services, support/advocacy groups and more. There also will be free giveaways and door prizes throughout the event.

“The overwhelming support from organizations year after year make this event an invaluable opportunity for our community to learn more about resources available to our families of students with disabilities,” said Dr. Aaron Spence, superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools. “We also appreciate the hard work of and collaboration between division staff and Special Education Advisory Committee members to organize this regional event to assist and inform families.”

For more information about the Community Resource Fair, contact the school division's Parent Support and Information Center at 757-263-2066. To learn more about the Special Education Advisory Committee or view its schedule of monthly meetings, visit vbschools.com.
