The Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Department of Budget and Finance has received an Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award for 2011 from the National Purchasing Institute.
According to the institute, the award is designed to recognize “those organizations that demonstrate excellence in procurement by obtaining a high score on a rating of standardized criteria.” To receive the award, the school division’s Department of Budget and Finance was rated on innovation, professionalism, use of e-procurement, productivity, and leadership attributes in procurement.
The institute noted that the “Virginia Beach City Public Schools is one of only 8 government agencies in Virginia and one of only 17 school districts in the United States to receive the award.”
Farrell E. Hanzaker, the school division’s chief financial officer who leads the school system’s budget and finance department, said, “Virginia Beach City Public Schools is indeed honored to receive this award. It is testimony to how efficiently and strategically this school division approaches the purchase of goods and services that support public education in Virginia Beach. Kevin Beardsley, our director of purchasing services and his staff are to be commended for the impeccable way they do business. They certainly earned this outstanding achievement.”
In addition to the institute, the award is sponsored by the California Association of National Public Procurement Officers, the Florida Association of Public Procurement Officers, the Institute of Supply Management, the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, the National Association of State Procurement Officials, the National Association of Educational Procurement, and the Texas Public Purchasing Association.
