Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Race, Color, Sex, Pregnancy and Childbirth, Marital Status, Age, Disability, National Origin, Ethnicity or Religion
The School Board is of the general view that:
Under the body of law cited in the legal reference of this Policy and implementing regulations thereto a school division receiving federal funds:
School Board employees will comply with the preceding requirements of the law and with any regulations approved by the School Board to ensure this Policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, pregnancy and childbirth, marital status, age, disability, national origin, ethnicity or religion.
The Superintendent will designate individuals to act as the School Division's compliance officers. The administrators who have been appointed to serve as compliance officers for Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 are listed in School Board Regulation 2-33.1.
Continuing Resolution in Support of a Safe and Inclusive Environment for all Students and Employees and a more inclusive Virginia Human Rights Act adopted by the School Board on 11/19/13 directs that School Board Policies 4-4 and 5-7 incorporate this Resolution by reference to note the School Board’s concerns about its lack of authority to officially adopt policy or regulation that prohibits discriminatory and harassing conduct based upon sexual orientation and gender identity.
