School-wide Grant recipients announced |
Congratulations
to the six recipients of Virginia Beach Education Foundation School-wide
Grants. Staff members will use the grants to fund their respective
learning projects during the 2010-2011 school year:
- John
B. Dey Elementary School — “Probing”
for Answers: Learning on the Go! director: Jody Carroll, awarded:
$4,682.00.

First Colonial High School — Audio Adventure
CheMystery, director: Barbara Besal, awarded: $4,999.70.

King's Grant Elementary School — GRACE
Club, director: Sharon Boudreau, awarded: $3,214.95.

Ocean Lakes High School — The Dolphin
News Splash: the Ripple Effect, director: Amy Jo Harrell, awarded:
$2,981.89.

Ocean Lakes High School —
From Planting to Picking to Cooking - a Cross Curricular Learning
Experience, director: Debra Sawyer, awarded: $3,400.00.

Thoroughgood Elementary School — Learning
as We Grow, director: Krista Clark, awarded: $5,000.00.
These
grant recipients will be recognized along with the 2010-2011 Building
Futures Grant recipients at the Foundation’s annual TGIF
grant celebration on November 10, 2010. Building Futures Grant
forms are currently available to school staff through the VBCPS
Intranet and must be submitted by October 6, 2010. |

annual Pearls of Wisdom Oyster Roast a success! |
More
than $14,000 was raised for future teacher grants at the Education
Foundation’s Pearls of Wisdom Oyster Roast and Barbecue
held March 27, 2010. The Virginia Beach Education Foundation’s
newest event was sponsored by CISCO and Lifetouch, and event photos
taken by O’Brien et al Advertising may be found on the Foundation’s
Facebook page. Take
a look! And mark your calendar for next year’s Pearls
of Wisdom event being held on April 2, 2011 at the 24th Street
Park, Oceanfront. |

O’Brien
et al Advertising has graciously donated its time to take photos
and produce videos of Education Foundation grant projects. Check
them out on the Foundation’s Facebook page, which O’Brien
also helped the Foundation establish. Become a fan
if you're a Facebook user. The page is accessible by both Facebook
members and non-members. Photo: Fairfield Elementary School
students modernize Civil War recipes with the help of culinary
art students at the Technical and Career Education Center. The
interdisciplinary project has students learning about history,
using math skills in measurements, and reading skills to follow
recipe instructions.

2010 Virginia Beach Education Foundation commemorative print "Hope"
is available for purchase. The artwork by Indian Lakes Elementary
School art teacher Linda Gerek is available in notecards, framed
prints, and unframed prints. Place an order online
