Helpful Information on the Application Process

Submitting an Employment Application to the Department of Human Resources

Once an applicant begins entering data into the online application, whether it is complete or incomplete, as long as the applicant has clicked Save and Next found on the bottom of each page, the information is saved. All information entered into an online employment application will be forwarded to the Department of Human Resources.

Receiving employment consideration for the 2018 Summer School Program

In order to assure consideration for this particular year's summer school program, it is imperative applicants select the appropriate year from the drop down menu for the question "Please indicate the year(s) for which you are applying for a summer school position" which appears on the "Employment Preferences" page of the application. Failure to make a selection, or selecting the inappropriate year, will exclude an applicant from being included in staffing reports issued to summer administrators. In addition to responding to this question, it is mandatory applicants select at least one work assignment and location preference from the respective drop down selection menus.

Confirming a Summer School Employment Application is Complete

  • Upon entering ANY information into an online employment application, you will receive an e-mail. If your application is incomplete, this will be indicated in the e-mail.
  • Any time you access your online employment application and make a change/update, if the information is incomplete, you will be notified in an e-mail.
  • You may also check to see if your employment application is complete by clicking on the question mark icon found in the upper left-hand corner of your online application.

Selection of Summer School Staff

  • Selection of summer school staff will not begin until at least mid-May 2018, and will continue until all vacant positions are filled, normally about two weeks prior to the start of the second semester of summer school (July 13, 2018).
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit completed applications by April 30, 2018 to maximize opportunity for selection to preferred positions/assignments/locations. However, applications will be accepted through the spring and early summer until all vacancies are filled.
  • Summer school principals select staff based on the qualifications, credentials, assignment, and location options found on the applicant's online employment application.
  • At the time an applicant is selected for summer employment he/she will be sent a contract offer. Each position is considered "open/vacant" until an accepted/signed contract has been returned for that position to the Department of Human Resources.
  • All contract offers are subject to sufficient student enrollment.
  • Once contracts are initially issued, all applicants who applied by the deadline will receive an e-mail sent to the e-mail address provided on their online application informing them whether or not they were selected for summer school employment as of that time. For more information on the notification process, please check the Summer School Frequently Asked Questions page.
  • Non-VBCPS employees must meet all pre-employment requirements including background checks and Tuberculin test certification.
  • For non-VBCPS employees selected to teach summer school, a copy of a valid teaching license with endorsements must be provided at the time of hire. Failure to provide this information in a timely manner will delay the hiring process or may result in rescinding the contract offer.
  • The hourly pay rate for summer school teachers (which includes licensed Driver’s Education teachers) is $30.00 per hour. Total hours worked may vary based on program and other factors.
  • The list of summer school classified positions and their corresponding hourly pay rate is as follows:
