Dec. 2014 / Governor's Budget Announced
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, Governor Terry McAuliffe presented his state budget amendments to a joint meeting of the General Assembly's House and Senate money committees. The governor's prepared remarks stated, "More than any other priority, Virginia's future economic success is staked upon our public education system...we must constantly improve the quality of the education we offer every Virginia child."
Governor McAuliffe's amendments contained no cuts or program reductions for elementary and second education and no additional cuts to higher education in Virginia. The governor's adjustments to the two-year spending plan are subject to legislative approval during the 2015 General Assembly session. Governor McAuliffe's Dec. 17 remarks, as prepared for delivery, are available online.
