How can I find out what apps my child is using?

We have all heard about setting computers in a high-trafficked location of a household, but do you know that there are additional ways to monitor your children’s apps? For example, the settings on smartphones have "restriction" options that you can set and cannot be changed unless you know the passcode. Software for setting filter settings and other parenting controls are also available. In Virginia Beach, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office offers a Computer Cop software that parents can obtain for free and use to monitor their children’s social media use. Mamabear offers a free app that sends parents notifications each time their child receives a message or if their child’s name is tweeted. Tom's Guide and Smart Safe Social recently rated some of the social media app monitoring software available for purchase. There are also free apps for specific purposes, such as the "Find My Phone" app that enables you to locate multiple devices. The website Smart Safe Social also recently published an overview and made recommendations of the various apps that teens are using. In short, you’re not alone. There are many technology devices already available to help and they’re only a click away.
